Audioslave era uma banda de rock alternativo estaduniense formada em 2001. Formada a partir da colaboração do ex-vocalista do Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, com o guitarrista, baixista e baterista dos Rage Against The Machine, Tom Morello, Tim Commerford e Brad Wilk, respectivamente. Em 2002, lançam Audioslave, seu álbum de estréia, que marca pelos sucessos "Cochise", "Show Me How To live" e "Like a Stone".

Já em 2005, é a vez de Out Of Exile, com os sucessos "Be Yourself" e "Doesn't Remind Me". No mesmo ano, a banda torna-se manchete a nível mundial ao gravar um DVD ao vivo em Cuba, indo contra a política norte americana de embargo imposta àquele país. Em 2006, foi lançado o terceiro (e último) álbum da banda, Revelations. No ano seguinte, com o anúncio de uma reunião do Rage Against the Machine durante o Festival Coachella de 2007, Chris Cornell anunciou sua saída da banda, alegando "diferenças irreconciliáveis".
